About Us

The SIFMA Foundation is dedicated to fostering knowledge and understanding of the financial markets for individuals of all backgrounds with a focus on youth. Drawing on the involvement and expertise of educators and the financial industry, the SIFMA Foundation provides financial education programs and tools that strengthen economic opportunities across communities and increase individuals' access to the benefits of the global marketplace.

The Stock Market Game™ is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages 4th-12th graders in the world of economics, investing and personal finance, and prepares them for financially independent futures. SMG is proven to raise student test scores in economics, math and personal finance, while also teaching essential life skills. Starting with a virtual $100,000, student teams strive to create the best performing portfolio of bonds, common stocks, and mutual funds. They earn interest on cash balances and pay commissions on trades, just as in real life. Nearly 600,000 students take part in SMG every year across all 50 states.

The Capitol Hill Challenge is the nation’s only financial education program supported by 100% of Congress. This special edition of The Stock Market Game™ presented by the Charles Schwab Foundation and offered each spring matches Members of Congress with middle and high schools nationwide. Since its inception in 2004, CHC has reached 125,000 students. The top 10 teams win a trip to Washington, DC for a ceremony on Capitol Hill, to learn about fiscal policy making and to tour financial landmarks.

InvestWrite® is a national essay competition generously underwritten by the Wells Fargo Foundation extending what SMG students learn by challenging them to analyze a long-term investment opportunity. Student essays address real-world financial issues, saving/investing, asset allocation, capital markets and the global economy. lnvestWrite reinforces academic skills in language arts, social studies, economics and mathematics. It draws the connection between classroom learning and “real life” decision making. Thousands of industry professionals volunteer each year to select winners. Since its inception in 2004, InvestWrite has reached nearly 250,000 students, 40,000 volunteers and more than 11,000 teachers.
